Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Nehal Hashmi on Wednesday submitted an unconditional apology in the contempt of court case against him. According to details, the apex court has reserved the judgement after completing here of the case.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who headed the three-member bench, said “you were going to make our life miserable on earth [as per your speech]”, adding that “whatever you say to us is fine but you mentioned our children as well”.
On this the Murtaza the lawyer of Nehal Hashmi has stated that now (Nehal Hashmi) put himself to the mercy of the court and submitting an unconditional apology from the court.
Nehal Hashmi, in his reply submitted to the court, had stated: “If the court feels that I have committed contempt, I apologise.” Justice Asif Saeed Khosa asked, “What does he [Hashmi] mean by ‘if’?” At this, Hashmi’s counsel said he apologized unconditionally on his client’s behalf.
Justice Khosa admonished the former PML-N leader’s conduct, saying: “Nehal Hashmi is a lawyer. He should act with restraint.” Hashmi, following orders, offered the court an unconditional apology in writing and left it to the institution to decide his fate. The court then reserved its judgement on the case.
The Supreme Court had early served him a contempt notice for his controversial remarks, reportedly aimed at the apex court which was conducting the Panama Papers case trial at the time.
It was worth mentioned here that Hashmi, in a speech to workers in Karachi at a Youm-e-Takbeer event, on May 31 had threatened the prime minister’s unidentified ‘enemies’. “The one you are investigating is the PM’s son,” roared Hashmi.
Without identifying who he was referring to, Hashmi said, “You will not be spared; you are in service now but remember you will retire tomorrow.” “Those investigating us [must know] we will observe your day of judgment,” he stated further.
