NHMP issues travel advisory for participants of Tablighi Ijtema

The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a special travel advisory for transporters, passengers, and citizens travelling from across the country to attend the Tablighi Ijtema in Masjid Abu al-Qasim, Islamabad. The advisory aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and to prevent road accidents during the increased travel activity. The Tablighi Ijtema will be held from 1 May 2026 to 3 May 2026.
According to the NHMP spokesperson, all passengers and drivers are strongly advised to strictly observe the following safety guidelines: All road users must fully comply with traffic laws and safe driving practices at all times. Over speeding and violation of prescribed speed limits must be strictly avoided. The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited and full attention must be given to the road. Seat belts must be used at all times without exception.
Drivers are advised not to operate vehicles in a state of fatigue or drowsiness and should take proper rest at designated service areas. Emergency vehicles must be given immediate and clear passage without delay. Before starting the journey, complete vehicle fitness must be ensured, including brakes, tyres, lights, and all essential equipment. Carrying passengers on the roof of vehicles is strictly prohibited. Heavy vehicles must travel in the left lane and strictly follow lane discipline. Frequent overtaking and reckless driving must be avoided. Overloading of vehicles is not permitted under any circumstances.
Vehicles should only be parked at designated service areas, and illegal parking must be avoided. Travellers are encouraged to use service areas for prayers and other personal needs during the journey. Prior to departure, fuel level, tyre pressure, spare wheel, jack/tool kit, and lights must be thoroughly checked.
Drivers must fully comply with instructions issued by on-duty Motorway Police officers. In case of any emergency or assistance, travellers may contact the NHMP Helpline 130 immediately. The spokesperson further stated that public cooperation plays a vital role in ensuring safe travel. All commuters are therefore requested to adopt responsible driving behaviour and strictly follow traffic rules to ensure safety on the roads.
