Night flights at Laoag International Airport will remain suspended until Jan. 7 due to problems with its runway lighting system, the Phillippine News Agency (PNA) reported citing the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). The notice to airmen (NOTAM) has been extended to 10 p.m. on Jan. 7, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency.
Landing and take off are limited to “day visual meteorological condition”, because the edge light at Runway 01/19 is unusable, Apolonio added.
CAAP on Saturday said a NOTAM was issued as Laoag Airport’s “runway lights became temporarily unusable due to short circuit.”A temporary wiring was installed to partially restore the system, CAAP added.
At least two flights between Manila and Laoag were canceled on Saturday. On Sunday, CAAP said technical works are ongoing and reiterated that safety is its top priority. — DNA
