Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (SACM-KP) for Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif while responding to Prime Minister statement has said that no wheat smuggling has been reported from KP to neighboring country.
Provincial Food department has established two checks posts in addition to already established check posts by FC, FIA and Customs, adding that no smuggling of wheat to Afghanistan has been reported.
It is worth mentioning here that Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif has called upon the KP government to control wheat smuggling and ensure the availability of wheat for the consumers in the province. However, the provincial government responded and claimed that there was no smuggling of wheat from the province to the neighboring country.
Barrister Saif, while commenting on a news story said KP food department has a very robust control system.
Wheat and flour supply was monitored through a digital system on a daily basis. He said, International Borders between Afghanistan and KP were being managed by federal agencies like customs, FIA, and FC etc. and have been fenced.
“It is the responsibility of the federal government to stop smuggling of wheat, ‘’ he added.
Barrister Saif said, inter provincial borders between KP and Punjab and KP and Balochistan have also been sealed.
“Only legal transportation of wheat and flour is allowed through these borders”, he added. SACM emphasized that the demand of KP market, trade from Punjab is checked at every level and smuggling across the international borders is not possible.
Barrister Saif said that the Federal government has tried to give a wrong impression through a news story referring to the KP government to curb wheat smuggling. Instead of political point scoring, the KP government would urge sincerity towards the uplift and benefit of people of KP.
