PESHAWAR
The nursing staff from all over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) continued their sit-in for the third day on Friday outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly demanding service regularization and job protection.
They also expressed serious concern over the KP’s government Health Facilities Management Bill 2022 and demanded its withdrawal.
The nurses, on the call of the Young Nursing Association started their protest on Thursday against the provincial government and health department policies but decided to turn it into a sit-in as the government did not bother to pay attention to their long lasting demands.
In a statement issued by the nurses resolved to continue their sit-in until the government met their demands.
They said the KP had recruited more than 481 nurses under a scheme but it was using delaying tactics for their appointment, adding that the provincial government has also turned deaf ears towards filling out vacant positions in a number of major hospitals.
“Thousands of nursing staff had been performing their duties for years in different public sector hospitals on contract or fixed pay,” they shared.
The provincial government did not pay any serious attention towards the problems being faced by the nursing community. This attitude shows the KP government is not ready to acknowledge their services and not ready to resolve their long lasting demands,” they added.
They also raised serious reservations over the steps taken by the health department which allowed the nursing colleges of KP as part of Medical Teaching Institute (MTI).
It is worth mentioning here that nurses from all over the province had also boycotted duties to press the government for acceptance of their demands.
