A total of 212 Afghan refugee families, comprising 1,170 individuals, have voluntarily departed Lower Dir in the past few days, officials revealed during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Arif Khan. The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner General, Additional Deputy Commissioner Relief and Human Rights, Assistant Commissioners and other relevant stakeholders. The district administration reviewed camp assets, land records, and ongoing repatriation procedures as the number of departing refugees continues to rise, said a handout. Humayun Khan, District Administrator for Afghan Refugees, briefed the forum in detail on the assets and land documentation of the camps across Lower Dir. Issuing directives, the Deputy Commissioner ordered that all camp-related assets, including medical centers, educational institutions, street lights, electricity transformers and water supply schemes, be immediately handed over to the relevant departments, with formal reports and certifications submitted the same day. He instructed the Assistant Commissioners of Timergara, Samarbagh and Udayanzai to conduct a comprehensive land survey of all Afghan refugee camps to reconcile government and private land records.
The officers were also directed to submit daily reports on refugees departing voluntarily.
DC Arif Khan further directed that the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief and Human Rights) Dir Lower share daily departure reports with the ADC (Relief and Human Rights).
He added that an affidavit must be obtained from each truck driver, confirming that they will transport the voluntarily returning refugees directly to Landi Kotal in District Khyber.
DC said all possible support should be extended to refugees opting to return voluntarily.
