Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam said on Saturday that Pakistan was solidifying its position in the world as a responsible, serious, and peace-loving country under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony in Salampur, Swat, held in connection with the inauguration of a gas supply project initiated by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited.
Speaking on the occasion, the federal minister highlighted that Pakistan has consistently worked to promote peace, stability, and dialogue in the region.
He added that the country’s armed forces, led by CDF/COAS Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, are playing a key role not only in national defense but also in maintaining regional peace and stability.
During the ceremony, Amir Muqam formally inaugurated gas supply and meter installations under the project, which consists of a 24-kilometer network and is expected to benefit around 2,000 households in the area.
He described the occasion as a milestone in the development of Salampur, congratulating residents on the completion of the project.
“This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to delivering development and essential services to every corner of the country,” he said.
The minister noted that Salampur is known for its handmade textiles, skilled craftsmanship, and hardworking people, who contribute significantly to both the economy and cultural heritage.
He added that the gas project would not only ease domestic life but also provide a boost to local industries, particularly textiles and handicrafts.
Engr Amir Muqam emphasized that access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy would promote small businesses, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the local economy. “This project marks not just the provision of gas, but the beginning of prosperity, development, and self-reliance,” he remarked.
He reiterated that the government’s top priority is to ensure that underdeveloped and rural areas receive the same facilities as major cities, ensuring equitable progress across the country.
He also stressed the government’s commitment to transparency, high standards, and timely completion of development projects.
On foreign policy, the minister said that Pakistan has always played a constructive and responsible role in promoting global peace. He said the leadership has demonstrated wisdom, patience, and foresight during challenging times, and efforts toward ceasefire, de-escalation, and peace have been widely appreciated internationally.
“These efforts are recognition that Pakistan is strengthening its global standing as a responsible and peace-oriented nation,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of keeping key global trade and energy routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz, open and secure to ensure global economic stability.
Concluding his address, the minister urged collective efforts to advance development, enhance skills, and work toward a brighter future for coming generations.
He prayed for the success of the project and for the prosperity of the people of Salampur.
Local elders at the event appreciated the minister’s efforts and termed the project a significant step forward for the area.
The minister was warmly received upon arrival, with rose petals showered in his honor, while local leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) was also present at the occasion.
