The President of Pakistan Cycling Federation Syed Azhar Ali Shah on Friday said that Pakistan Cycling Team will participate in the upcoming Asian Track Cycling Championship which is scheduled from June 18 to 22, 2022 in New Delhi, India.
According to a statement issued by Syed Azhar Ali Shah said that the decision of participation of national team in Asian Track Cycling Championship has been taken in the meeting of Executive Council of the Federation.
He said that trials for selection of cyclists in this regard would be held on May 8, 2022 at Cycling Weldroom, Lahore. Syed Azhar Ali Shah said all the affiliated units of PCF including Pakistan Army and WAPDA have been directed to present their riders before the selection committee.
Mr Shah advised the team manager to ensure that all riders nominated by him for the trial had a valid passport and valid cycling license. He added that teams can apply for renewal of their rider licenses by the end of April 2022.
He further said that PCF believes in sportsmanship and is making every effort for the promotion of sports in Pakistan. He said that in the past POA had not given accreditation to PCF in various international sports competitions due to which our cyclists were deprived of many important international events.
He said that POA should change its attitude towards cycling and give proper status to PCF. He said that PCF is an affiliate of UCI and ACC and according to the agreement signed in Switzerland, POAP is responsible for giving proper status to APCF.
He said Pakistani rider Ali Elias recently won a silver medal at the 41st Asian Road Cycling Championships in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He appealed to the concerned circles that the upcoming South Asian Games and Commonwealth Games should be a part of the PCF. Allow participation in Islamic Games.
PFC had earlier imposed a five-year ban on cyclists on the grounds of discipline during the 33rd National Games in Peshawar but considering the positive attitude of cyclists towards the sport, bicycles It has been decided to lift the ban on riders, he added.
He said that now PCF has allowed all banned cyclists and two officials including Ezzatullah, Nisar Kasi, Najibullah, Owais Khan, Muhammad Maqsood and Mumtaz Riaz to participate in PCF events.
