“Be the Voice of those, who don’t have one” said by Dr. Riffat Sardar, Chairperson KP CSW Today, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) in Collaboration with department of education, University of Haripur, organized an event “Legal rights of Women Nikah Nama and inheritance”, in the university of Haripur.
The event was organized in observance of 16 Days of Activism to end gender-based violence, attended by the chairman service tribunals, religious scholars, District social welfare officer Haripur, students, Civil Society Organizations and academia.
The Special guest Ahmed Sultan Tareen, Chairman service tribunals, said that the status of women’s inheritance and marriage certificate is a legally registered document and they have legal protection and the wife does not need to register in any other legal forum to get the rights enshrined in it. Addressing the seminar.
Aimal Rasheed, Focal Person of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on Status of Women, highlighted the crucial role of the Commission in reviewing and implementing the laws, policies and programs related women rights. He added further, that Dr. Riffat Sardar, Chairperson Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on Status of Women overseeing the ongoing 16 days of activism campaign against Gender Based Violence across the province.
She communicated her message on the occasion “Be the Voice of those, who don’t have one”.
Ms. Shazia Advocate discussed in detail all the clauses of the Nikahnama and insisted that both the parties must read and understand the contents of Nikah Nama, before entering into marriage contract, so that they could be able to be fully aware of obligation and rights they are signing in Nikah Nama.
Ms. Sajida Hasrat Khan, Chairperson of the District Committee on the status of women Haripur District spoke on the positive role of the Commission on Protection of Women’s Rights in Haripur.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Anwar Gilani termed today’s program as a commendable initiative by Haripur University and the KP CSW for the promotion of women rights. The university will encourage the women not only in admissions but also in getting their jobs in the university on priority basis. At the end the shields and certificates were distributed among the speakers and the organizers.
