PESHAWAR
A “Pakistan-Afghanistan Peace Jirga” was held on Tuesday under the auspices of Aspire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a non-profit research forum and the Qumi Islahi Tehreek to address rising tensions between the two countries.
The event brought together political leaders, scholars, business representatives, and media personnel.
Chairman of Aspire KP, Shahzad Khan, said the jirga aimed to provide a platform for dialogue and collective understanding to reduce conflict and promote lasting peace.
After discussions, participants issued a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire, non-interference in each other’s territory, resolution of disputes through dialogue, and confidence-building measures.
The jirga emphasized that group interests should not outweigh national interests, security, and centuries-old cultural and religious ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Organizers said the platform would be expanded to involve national-level leadership and promote citizen diplomacy to achieve sustainable peace.
