Police claimed to have arrested 19 members of different criminal gangs in operations held in different areas of the provincial metropolis. According to a handout issued here on Thursday, a police team led by SP Cantt Waqaz Rafiq conducted various operations against street criminals and held 19 suspects.
Police said that the arrested persons were allegedly involved in street crimes in posh, residential and commercial areas that fall within the limits of Cantt Division Police. The operations were conducted under the supervision of SDPO Town Sajjad Hussain and SDPO Pishtakhra Ghafar Khan. Police made the arrest from the areas fall in the limits of
Pishtakhara Police Station, Town Police Station, Tehkal Police Station, Sarband Police Station, Gulberg Police Station and Tatara Police Station. Suspects involved in street crimes, robberies, vehicle lifting and other serious crimes active in the city have been busted.
The arrested accused also include residents of neighboring Afghanistan, district Kohat, district Khyber and different areas of Peshawar.
Police have also recovered 122 valuable mobile phones, 15 motorcycles, gold, Rs 0.8 million cash, four cars, two valuable watches, and other looted items. One Kalashnikov, one rifle, seven pistols and several cartridges were also recovered from the gangs who committed the crimes.
Among the arrested suspects are those involved in changing the EMI of stolen mobile phones, smuggling stolen mobile phones to Afghanistan.
According to SP Cantt Waqas Rafiq the arrested persons were allegedly involved in motorcycle theft and selling them at lower prices in the open market. During the initial investigation, the arrested accused confessed to being involved in several crimes. Police officials maintained that important revelations are expected from the suspects.
