Peshawar Awami Jirga threatens protest against gas loadshedding

PESHAWAR: The residents of various areas in the provincial capital under the banner of ‘Peshawar Awami Jirga’ have threatened to stage a protest outside SNGPL Peshawar office if authorities fail to ensure uninterrupted supply of natural gas to their homes. A meeting of the Jirga held on Thursday in which the members lamented that besides prolonged electricity cuts, they had been experiencing excessive loadshedding of natural gas. Awami National Party president and elected chairman Haji Jamdad, former Nazim Union Council Shaheen Muslim Town Tariq Mateen, Pakistan People’s Party Leader and Chairman-Elect Amir Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Chairman Ayub Qureshi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Fazlur Rahman, Pasban President Zahid Hussain Khalil, Safi Welfare Chairman Haji Shamsuddin, Anjuman Tajran President Haji Tahsinullah and other elected chairmen and councilors attended the meeting. It was unanimously decided by the members that a protest demonstration would be held outside the General Manager office of Sui Gas in Peshawar on Friday (today). Scholars, socio-political parties, businessmen and lawyers of Peshawar will be contacted to participate in the protest, they added. DLP Report
