Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Sanaullah Khan on Monday conducted an extensive market inspection to ensure fair pricing and availability of essential commodities during Ramazan.
During his visit to various markets across the city, the DC interacted with shoppers and assessed the availability, quality, and official prices of food commodities. Citizens lauded the district administration’s efforts, expressing satisfaction over the measures taken to provide relief during the Ramadan period. Additional Assistant Commissioner Azeemullah Mehsud accompanied the DC during the visit.
Captain (R) Sanaullah Khan said that providing maximum relief to the public during Ramadan remained the top priority of the district administration. “Every day, at dawn, officers from the District Administration and relevant departments visit vegetable and fruit markets to issue official price lists while monitoring auction processes,” he said.
He added that once the price lists are issued, administrative officers carry out inspections across markets to ensure compliance, and immediate legal action is taken against violators. “No concession will be made to those creating artificial inflation, hoarding, or exorbitant pricing,” the DC stressed.
Shopkeepers have been directed to prominently display the official price lists, and the quality and quantity of essential commodities are being regularly checked to guarantee affordable and quality goods for consumers. Price monitoring desks have also been set up in major markets, staffed by departmental officers under the supervision of the District Administration, to take on-the-spot action against non-compliance.
The District Administration has urged citizens to report instances of high prices or missing official price lists to the relevant officers promptly, so timely legal measures can be enforced against offenders.
