Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmad on Thursday reviewed security arrangements for the central 9th Muharram procession in Saddar Cantt and visited command posts in Gulbahar and Kohati to inspect measures for all mourning processions and majalis across the city.
Accompanied by Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Zahidullah, SSP Operations Farhan Khan, and divisional SPs, the CCPO said police officers and personnel were performing their duties with full commitment under the approved security plan.
“Peshawar Police are on high alert to deal with any situation,” Dr. Ahmad said. Modern technology, including drone cameras, anti-drone systems, drone guns, body cameras, and advanced surveillance systems, is being used to secure procession routes, imambargahs, mosques, and other sensitive locations.
The inner city has been sealed to strengthen security. All routes, imambargahs, mosques, and key points are being monitored in real time through Safe City cameras, CCTV, body cameras, and other surveillance systems.
Bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs are conducting continuous sweeping and clearance of all procession routes. Participants are being allowed entry only after three-layer security checking, while additional personnel have been deployed at entry and exit points.
The CCPO said Peshawar Police are maintaining close coordination with district administration, other law enforcement agencies, and religious scholars and leaders from all schools of thought to maintain law and order.
Targeted search and strike operations against criminals, suspects, and anti-social elements are underway across the district under the supervision of divisional SPs. Additional patrolling and snap checkings have been intensified in sensitive areas.
Dr. Ahmad said all available resources are being utilized to ensure the protection of life and property, the peaceful observance of Muharram, and foolproof security. Police remain ready to respond immediately to any untoward incident.
