PESHAWAR
Two more leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) obtained timely relief from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) as the court on Thursday granted Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Asad Umar transitory bails in cases related to the May 9 riots.
The vice-chairman of PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi told reporters in the premises of the PHC that the Islamabad police did not allow him and his party leader Asad Umar to get appointment time from Islamabad High Court (IHC), adding that cases against them have been registered at Tarnol Police Station.
“We could not convince the police to let us appear before the court. We did not like their intentions, hence, we decided to go to the Peshawar High Court,” Qureshi said.
It is pertinent to mention that PHC has granted transitory bail to PTI vice-chairman Mr Qureshi and Asad Umar and barred the Capital Police from arresting them to appear before the IHC on Friday (today).
Earlier, the court had granted bail to former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, a bail in cases registered against him in connection with May 9 protests following the arrest of PTI chairman Imran Khan.
