Court announced reserved verdict suspended 3 MPO in KP
PESHAWAR
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday suspended the notifications of Maintenance of the Public Order (MPO) issued by deputy commissioners of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ordered the release of the arrested accused held under the ordinance.
A two-member bench of the PHC, comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Arshad Ali, gave the reserved verdict on the petitions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyers forum. The court had reserved the decision after completing the arguments on the applications submitted by the forum on behalf of the party accused arrested under the 3 MPO.
The PHC null and void the orders issued by the deputy commissioners of the province after the May 9 and 10 protests carried out by the PTI workers against the arrest of former premier Imran Khan in Islamabad in an alleged corruption case. It is pertinent to mention here that more than 150 leaders of PTI had approached the PHC against the imposition of MPO in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and sought the orders of release of all those arrested under the ordinance.
The district administration across the province has held a large number of leaders and workers of the PTI under the MPO for attacking government installations, police and army establishments.
