Plastic exports rise 13.47pc in 6 months

The country’s plastic materials export has increased by 13.47 percent during the first six months of the current financial year 2021-22 on a year-on-year basis.
Pakistan exported plastic material worth $186.573 million during July-December (2021-22). It exported the plastic material worth $164.432 million during July-December of the last year showing growth of 13.47 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis the plastic export increased by 77.39 percent during the month of December 2021 as compared to the same month of last year. The plastic material exports in December 2021 were recorded at US $32.043 million against the export of $18.064 million in December 2020, the PBS data revealed.
On a month- on- monthly basis, the exports of plastic however dipped by 20.83 percent in December 2021 when compared to $40.474 million in November 2021.
From July-December 2021, Pakistan’s exports remained $15.125 billion and the target for the first half of the current fiscal year was $15 billion. The exports to seven regional countries increased 28.91 percent to $2.155 billion.
Exports to regional countries, including Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and the Maldives account for a small amount of $2.155 billion, which was only 14.14 percent of Pakistan’s overall exports of $15.236 billion during July-December (2021-22), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported. Among the regional countries, China tops the list of countries where Pakistan exports, leaving behind other countries such as Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
