Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed his deep grief over the loss of lives in a tragic school shooting in Turkiye that claimed nine lives.”Deeply grieved by the tragic attack on a school in Kahramanmaras. My heart goes out to my dear brother President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the brotherly people of Türkiye, especially the families and children affected,” the prime minister said, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for an official visit, on the first leg of his tri-nation tour to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye.
On his X timeline, he said that Pakistan mourns the loss of innocent young lives and prays for the departed souls. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the victim families, and wished a swift recovery to the injured.”The people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with their Turkish brothers and sisters in this moment of grief,” the prime minister added.
According to the Turkish Anadolu news agency, the shooting at a middle school left nine people dead and 13 injured, six of them critically. It quoted Mukerrem Unluer, Kahramanmaras’s governor, saying the attack was carried out by a male eighth-grade student, who also died, noting that it remained unclear whether he shot himself intentionally or was injured during the chaos. — DNA
