PM terms revenue collection as backbone of country’s economy

Meeting of caretaker Federal Cabinet called on Wednesday
ISLAMABAD
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said use of latest technology is inevitable to improve the tax system. He was chairing a meeting on improving the performance of Federal Board of Revenue in Islamabad on Monday.
The Prime Minister said revenue collection is tantamount to the backbone of the country’s economy. He further said important steps have been taken in the last few days to control smuggling in the country but more diligence will have to be done in this regard.
The Prime Minister said all stakeholders should be consulted regarding improving performance including the suggestions of all concerned institutions. The FBR team briefed the Prime Minister and various proposals were presented and considered in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Caretaker Minister for Finance Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Advisor to the PM Ahad Cheema, Chairman FBR and Federal Secretary Finance.
Meanwhile, A meeting of Caretaker Federal Cabinet has been convened on Wednesday.
Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar will preside over the meeting.
Federal Cabinet will review the country’s political and economic situation.
Federal Cabinet will also consider 6-point agenda.
According to sources, the issues related to 5th round of Free Trade Agreement with the gulf countries will also be reviewed in the meeting.
Haj policy 2024 will again be submitted in the Cabinet meeting with a minor change.
Approval will be taken to add more countries to Pakistan Business Visa online list in the meeting.
Approval of the budget of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council of 2023-2024 is also included in the agenda.
