ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday strongly refuted misleading reports circulating on social media that claimed an extreme and historic cold wave would grip Pakistan from January 16 to January 25. In an official rebuttal, the PMD clarified that no such extraordinary or record-breaking cold spell is expected during the mentioned period. The department stated that its latest analysis, based on numerical weather prediction models and observational data, shows that temperatures across most parts of the country are likely to remain within the normal winter range. “There is no indication of any widespread or persistent extreme cold wave in Pakistan during this timeframe,” the PMD said, dismissing the viral forecasts as unverified and inaccurate. The meteorological authority urged the public, media outlets, and stakeholders to rely only on official forecasts, advisories, and warnings issued by the PMD. It also cautioned against sharing unverified information, noting that such content can create unnecessary fear and confusion among the public. The PMD reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and accurate weather updates and advised citizens to follow its official digital platforms for authentic information. DNA
