PML-N candidate withdraws in favour of JUI-F

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday formally announced withdrawal of its candidate from the race of mayor Peshawar slot election in favor of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) candidate.
Sources said that decision, PML-N Naik Zada withdrawal in favor of JUI-F Zubair Ali was taken in a meeting of opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Move­ment (PDM).
Political observers claimed that the significant development could lead to brightening chances JUI-F candidate Zubair Ali success for mayor Peshawar slot.
JUI-F provincial secretary information Abdul Jalil Jan said that alliance or seat adjustment with PML-N has been decided after a jirga between the two parties in Peshawar.
The alliance with PML-N for local body polls was limited to the slot of mayor Peshawar he added.
To a question, provincial secretary information ruled out seat adjustment with PML-N in other districts.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 16 candidates, including PML-N candidate, have filed nomination and contesting elections for the position of Peshawar-mayors-hip in the local government elections scheduled for December 19, 2021.
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has awarded party ticket to Rizwan Bangash, Awami National Party (ANP) has given party ticket to Haji Sher Rehman, JUI-F has finalized Haji Zubair Ali, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) named Bahrullah advocate, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has fielded Arbab Zarak Khan, PML-N has fielded Nek Zada, Tehreek-e-Istiqlal is also in the run for the mayor slot and has given ticket to Shoaib Khan, while Rah-e-Haq Party has fielded Muhammad Nawaz Khan.
Additionally, some independent candidates have also flexed their muscles for the slot include Ziaullah Afridi, Amin Jan, Shamsher Khan, Amir Iqbal Khalil, Kifayatullah, Muhammad Ibrahim, Muhammad Siddique Paracha, and Nadeem Khan.
In KP local body polls campaigns have taken momentum and trend of publicity materials could be seen everywhere in the provincial capital.
In the first phase of elections, polling will be held on Dec 19 for two tiers of the local bodies, while the elections will take place in the remaining 18 districts on Jan 16, 2022.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) the districts where elections will be held in the first phase included Buner, Bajaur, Swabi, Pesha­war, Nowshera, Kohat, Kar­ak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Tank, Haripur, Khyber, Mohmand, Chars­adda, Mardan, Hangu and Lakki Marwat.
Zubair Ali, JUI-F candidate for the Peshawar Metropolitan mayor is the son of former city district mayor Haji Ghulam Ali and a close relative of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman.
