Karachi: The ongoing monsoon rains have not only played havoc on land but also brought heavy floating debris to Karachi harbour. To keep Karachi fish harbour clean a harbour cleaning drive (HCD) was initiated by PMSA on 15 July, in collaboration with other stakeholders, which is still underway. PMSA vessels are deployed in Karachi harbour to remove the floating garbage that has clogged the channel. Truck loads of solid waste is being removed from channel and disposed off in collaboration with Solid Waste Management Authority. A meeting of all stakeholders is planned on 5 Aug at HQs PMSA to work out modalities to keep the harbour clean. Awareness campaign is also being undertaken concurrently to educate public on hazards of polluting our harbours.
