PESHAWAR
Unidentified armed men attacked the residence of the Peshawar Capital City Police Officer’s (CCPO) public relations officer in Budh Bher late Wednesday night, leaving the police official injured.
Police said the attackers opened fire on Muhammad Alam, a police official and PRO to the CCPO Peshawar, after entering his house in Kaga Wala, Rehmanabad. He sustained a bullet injury and was shifted to hospital, where doctors described his condition as stable.
According to the FIR, Mr Alam told Budhber police that he was asleep at around 2am on the night between Wednesday and Thursday when two masked armed men entered his house. The suspects opened fire after seeing him and fled from the scene.
The gunfire caused panic among residents, particularly women and children in the area.
Following the incident, senior police officers reached the site and cordoned off the area. Police said several spent 9mm pistol cartridges were recovered from the scene.
An investigation team has started examining CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to identify and trace the attackers.
Police have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other relevant sections and launched an investigation into the attack.
