City police on Monday held a consultative meeting with Shia leaders and caretakers of Imambargahs to review security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram and evolve a coordinated strategy to ensure the peaceful observance of the month.
The meeting, held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, was chaired by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed and attended by SSP Operations Farhan Khan, divisional SPs, traffic police officers, caretakers of Imambargahs and religious leaders from the Shia community.
Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO said the meeting aimed to strengthen security for majalis, processions, Imambargahs and procession routes through mutual consultation and coordination. He said police had maintained close liaison with religious leaders of all schools of thought and expressed confidence that Muharram would pass peacefully with their continued cooperation.
Dr Ahmed said comprehensive security measures were being implemented in view of the prevailing security situation to safeguard religious places, processions and the lives and property of citizens, including members of minority communities.
He warned that no negligence in security arrangements would be tolerated.
Representatives of the Shia community expressed satisfaction with the security measures planned by the police and assured the authorities of their full cooperation during Muharram, as in previous years.
