President writes letter to Imran, Shahbaz for consensus name for care taker PM

President Arif Alvi has written separate letters to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and former opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif asking them to propose a consensus name for induction as care taker PM.

According to Aiwan-e-Sadr spokesperson President has written this letter under article 224/1-A of the constitution. If these two leaders don’t agree on some one within three days of dissolution of assembly then they will send 2 names each to speaker National Assembly(NA).
NA speaker will constitute parliamentary committee comprising 8 members. This committee will comprise of members of either NA or Senate or both the houses. Members of this committee will be taken from government and opposition in equal number. All the four names sent by PM and opposition leader will come under discussion in the committee.

The nomination of members of committee will be made by PM and former opposition leader.

Sources said if parliamentary committee fails to agree on one name within seven days then the matter will go to the election commission.

Election commission will nominate as care taker PM with consensus one among the four names sent to the commission .

According to spokesperson the PM Imran Khan will continue to discharge his obligation as PM till the appointment of care taker PM under article 224-A/4
Article 224 of the constitution empowers president to appoint care taker PM in consultation with PM and leader of the opposition.
