TEHRAN
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on Friday at the invitation of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Prime Minister led a high-level Pakistani delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other senior government officials.
A parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, along with parliamentarians and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also attended the funeral ceremony.On the occasion, the Prime Minister recalled the lasting contributions of the late Supreme Leader to Islam and paid tribute to his leadership of the Iranian nation over several decades with wisdom and sagacity. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with the new Supreme Leader, His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and the brotherly people of Iran during this period of national mourning. He also prayed to Allah Almighty to grant the departed leader the highest ranks in Jannah and bless the bereaved nation with patience and strength.
