Projects under UNFPA support reviewed

PESHAWAR: Officials reviewed progress on different projects being implemented with the support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in various sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here in a local hotel on Tuesday. On behalf of the UNFPA, Country Head Lauy Shabaneh and other relevant officials participated in the meeting. On behalf of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Relief Abdul Basit, Secretary Population Welfare Asghar Ali, Deputy Secretary Social Welfare and other officials participated. In the meeting, a detailed briefing was given on the ongoing projects under the support of UNFPA. While presenting an overview of the progress on behalf of the Population Welfare Department, it was said that work is ongoing on eight activities of the department with the support of UNFPA. The total cost is estimated to be more than 10 million. In the meeting, the cost estimation, challenges and issues related to the ongoing projects implemented by non-governmental organizations in health, social welfare and other sectors were also reviewed. While appreciating the progress, UNFPA officials stressed the importance of making further improvements and timely completion of the projects. While informing about the ongoing projects and procedures of UNFPA, the relevant officials said that they are working closely with around 50 implementing partners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and are keeping a close eye on the projects to ensure transparency.
