In a significant development, sources revealed on Friday that Jahangir Tareen, a disgruntled leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), is expected to establish a new political party.
The news comes as a blow to PTI, which has already witnessed several high-profile departures in recent weeks. Sources familiar with the matter have disclosed that Jahangir Khan Tareen will assume the role of the party’s patron-in-chief, with several prominent dissident leaders of PTI, including Aleem Khan, joining his ranks.
Reports suggest that Mr Tareen and his like-minded associates have diligently undertaken initial preparations, while a party secretariat has been established in Lahore. Additionally, Mr Tareen has engaged in discussions with political leaders from within PTI, further indicating the growing disillusionment within the PTI’s ranks.
The disgruntled faction, spearheaded by Mr Tareen, appears determined to carve out a new political landscape in Pakistan. Meanwhile, PTI has been grappling with a series of setbacks since May 9, as numerous members, including close associates of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, have publicly announced their departure from the party.
These defections have dealt a significant blow to PTI’s credibility and stability, raising concerns about its ability to maintain a united front in the face of mounting challenges. The formation of Jahangir Tareen’s new political party is likely to intensify political rivalries in Pakistan, as the country prepares for the upcoming general elections.
