MULTAN: Mufti Abdul Qavi refuted allegations leveled at him by police that he had gone underground and said that if the police wanted to take him into custody, he would readily present himself before them.
Mufti Abdul Qavi claimed that police had not contacted him at all on Monday. He said that if the police were to contact him, he would offer them full cooperation with regard to the Qandeel Baloch murder case.
“I am sitting in my madressah and have not gone underground,” said Mufti Qavi in a video message.
Police had claimed that Mufti Qavi had gone underground and his phone numbers were also unresponsive. Police stated that a team had been formed to arrest the cleric, who has been nominated in the murder case of the slain model/social media personality Qandeel Baloch. Mufti Abdul Qavi had been nominated for the murder of Qandeel Baloch on the orders of the judiciary.
On the other hand, suspects arrested in the Qandeel Baloch murder case, Waseem, Haq Nawaz and Basit will be presented before the court today in Multan. Qandeel Baloch was a controversial model and social media personality who was famous for her bold Facebook posts. She was murdered last month allegedly by her brother Waseem, who confessed to the crime and claimed that he had murdered his sister for honour.
Waseem had named his cousin Haq Nawaz as an accomplice in the murder while he had also disclosed that it was suspect Basit’s car which they used to flee after killing Qandeel. Police had questioned Mufti Abdul Qavi in connection with the slain model’s murder case, since she had been killed a couple of days after their pictures on social media surfaced in which Baloch and the cleric could be seen together.
Police had sent a questionnaire to Mufti Qavi which contained inquiries regarding the murder. Qavi had clamed that after receiving his answers, police had given him a clean chit. The claim had been denied by Multan police.
Taking cognizance of public complaints, NAB KP authorized inquiry against the accused persons which established allegations and finally led to the arrest of the above mentioned accused persons.
All the accused persons are supplier for Worker Welfare Board (WWB) allegedly involved in causing loss to public exchequer through substandard and short supply of equipments against supply order.
The equipments includes Diaries, Registers, Exercise books, result cards, Text Books, Course Books crockery, sport equipment, stationery items, sport kits, PVC pipes, tube lights, welding equipment, micro meters, saws, fiber optics tool kits, various religious/historical books and library books etc at highly exorbitant rates. Furthermore, the accused persons in connivance with officials of WWB got contracts frequently and fraudulently.
The whole process of awarding contacts was conducted in sheer violations of PPRARules and caused huge loss of Millions of Rupees to the state exchequer. Tariq Awan, Secretary Worker Welfare Board (KP) who is the main culprit of this mega scam has already been arrested by NAB in another case regarding scholarship fraud in WWB. NAB KP is actively pursuing the investigation;
