Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said on Thursday that former secretary of finance in Balochistan Mushtaq Raisani and contractor Sohail Majeed are to become approvers in corruption case against Khalid Langove, former finance adviser.

Chairman of NAB addressed a ceremony of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and talked about mega corruption case of Balochistan involving top government officials, Mushtaq Raisani among others.
He complained that criminals get ‘lesser’ sentences from courts that what they deserve for the kind of corruption they do. The official who looted national treasury of around Rs 7 billion was sentenced to only a few years in prison, he added.
He said that ‘Double Shah’ served only four years in jail when his sentence should have been 14 years. Shah accepted punishment as funds were not recovered from him, he added.
Chaudhry said that plea bargain law is still in place only the nature of punishment was changed. He said that plea bargain law is intact even after presidential ordinance however, fresh legislation would introduce sentence in addition to recovery.
NAB chief said that the bureau receives a lot of petitions against corruption but at least 80 percent of those are discarded over lack of evidence. He is entitled to taking suo moto action however, he does not opt for that usually, NAB chief said. While talking about the anti-terror narrative of Pakistan, he said that extremism was a decades-long issue however, the situation is better now.
He held peace in the country relative to business progress.

SC seeks report from secretary establishment
Islamabad (Online): The Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought report from the secretary establishment division regarding illegal appointments in National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Three member bench of SC headed by Justice Amir Hani heard the case on Thursday. The counsel Khawaja Haris advocate from NAB while the counsel Musthib Habib from the affected officer of NAB appeared before the court.
Mustahib Habib argued that the measures should be taken for the compensation of threats confronting to life of the NAB’s officers for anticorruption.
NAB officer have to face threat during working. On which Justice Qazi Faez Isa calling the counsel of NAB Khawaja Haris remarked that why have you appointed as private counsel in the presence of government counsels.
Justice Amir Hani remarked that NAB comes into action when the court takes notice.
The court adjourned hearing and sought report from secretary establishment division within one month.
