ISLAMABAD: Following recent heavy rainfall, the spillways of Rawal Dam have been reopened as water levels surged to 1,752 feet. Prior to reopening the spillways, sirens were sounded to alert nearby residents. The decision was made by district authorities after the capital experienced a torrential downpour overnight, leading to the elevated water levels. Residents in the surrounding areas have been advised to avoid approaching streams and low-lying areas. Precautionary measures include moving livestock to safe locations and contacting emergency services at 16 if needed. The district administration has announced that emergency response preparations are complete and that close monitoring of streams, bridges, and flood-prone areas will continue to manage the flood situation.
