Monsoon season
PESHAWAR
The Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has urged the citizens to adopt precautionary measures owing to the current monsoon season.
Secretary Relief, Abdul Basit encouraged people to adhere to the provided precautions and prioritize not only their own safety but also the safety of others during monsoon season 2023.
Secretary Relief emphasized the importance of taking necessary precautions during rainy and stormy weather.
He advised the masses to stay away from electric poles, signboards, and trees to avoid potential accidents.
Furthermore, he strongly recommends refraining from throwing garbage in sewerage lines, as it leads to blockages and subsequent inundation of the area.
Roof drainage systems should be maintained, and sewerage lines must be regularly cleaned.
He further said that the Relief Department also directed the attached bodies, including Rescue 1122, PDMA, and Civil Defense, to remain alert and vigilant throughout the monsoon season.
The provincial Relief Department specifically instructed residents in low-lying areas to move their valuable belongings from basements to upper floors or safer locations to safeguard them from potential water damage.
Additionally, the public is advised to protect themselves from viral diseases that tend to break out during the monsoon season.
Avoiding direct contact with bare wires and refraining from using electrical home appliances with faulty, bare, or cracked electrical wires is essential to prevent electrical accidents.
Taimur Ali, spokesperson for the Relief Department, said that officials of concerned departments and district administrations have been informed to remain vigilant during the current spell of rains, in order to prevent any untoward incidents.
A media campaign is underway to create awareness among the public about taking precautionary measures. In case of emergencies, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) helpline at 1700 and Rescue-1122 helpline at 1122 are operational and can be contacted at any time.
