Resolution seeking effective legislation for transgender person’s safety submitted

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) woman Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Asia Khattak on Thursday submitted a resolution in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly secretariat demanded safety of transgender persons through effective legislation. MPA Asia Khattak, who is also a member of the parliamentary CACUS, said that during the last so many days’ incidents reported in which a number of transgender persons have been killed and many sustained critical injuries, adding that the provincial government should properly work on an effective legislation for the protection and safety of transgender.
The Social Welfare Department of the province should be directed to initiate work on a legislation and the House should spare proper time for the debate over the issues being faced by the transgender persons of KP, she added.
Asia Khattak said that Peshawar, Mardan, Masehra, and Bannu during the last few days reported killing of four transgenders persons and a number of them were injured. The provincial government should take pragmatic steps for the protection of vulnerable sections of the society and enact proper law in this regard, she added.
