Rs72 millions scam unearthed in WWB-KP, s CP fund

Four officials suspended, inquiry to be launched with the help of finance dept, sources

A fraud of Rs 72 million has surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Workers Welfare Board, s CP funds in the name of withholding tax deduction.
According to sources, after the alleged scam, the police have arrested a bank officer in the case.
After the initial inquiry, four officers WWB-KP including Director Works, Deputy Director Finance, Deputy Director Audit and Executive Officer Accounts have been suspended.
In order to carry out a transparent probe into the matter, The WWB department has also approached the finance department KP to acquire the services of financial experts to dig out CP funds irregularities.
According to sources, currently, the total volume of CP funds at different banks stand at Rs 1297 million.
However, last November, the board officials came to know about the withholding tax deduction scam in the CP funds and contractor securities.
Following the probe, the department has ordered freezing of all accounts.
The suspended officers in the case have claimed that money was withdrawn from the CP funds with the help of their forged signatures. Suspended officers also shared that the process of recovery from allegedly involved bank officer was underway.
