RTA fines 70 vehicles for overcharging passengers

PESHAWAR: On the instructions of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) conducted snap checking on the entry and exit points of the provincial capital and challaned 70 vehicles for charging excess fares from passengers and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on them. Regional transport Secretary Akbar Iftikhar has launched a comprehensive crackdown on drivers who charge excessive fares from passengers and issued challans to more than 70 vehicles, said a statement here on Friday. Secretary transport Aamir Latif, Commissioner Peshawar Division and Chairman RTA Peshawar Riaz Khan Mehsud under the supervision of Director Qaiser Khan Deputy Director Salman Nisar, Superintendent Fazlur Rehman along with traffic police checked vehicles on different routes. In view of public complaints, vehicle checking campaigns will continue on all the roads of the district. Drivers have been warned to ensure compliance with the fixed fares. Strict legal action will be taken against the violators, it added. DLP Report
