Inspector General of the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry, chaired the NHMP’s monthly Regional Conference, which was attended online by Additional Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General, and Senior Superintendents of Police from all NHMP regions and zones across the country.
The conference reviewed the overall performance of all zones in detail, with particular focus on traffic management, road safety, operational effectiveness, and ongoing enforcement initiatives.
Addressing the participants, the Inspector General directed all formations to utilize every available resource to ensure that citizens travelling on national highways and motorways are provided with safe, comfortable, and quality travel facilities. He emphasized that timely assistance and guidance to commuters must be ensured under all circumstances. IG Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry further stressed the need to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws through effective strategies, professional excellence, and the efficient use of modern technology to enhance safety and operational efficiency on the national highway network.
During the meeting, the Inspector General also instructed officers to further intensify road safety awareness campaigns and ensure regular inspection of the fitness and tyres of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs). He directed that all long-route passenger buses must strictly comply with the requirement of having two drivers on board to prevent road crashes caused by driver fatigue and drowsiness.
Reaffirming the NHMP’s commitment, Inspector General Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry stated that safeguarding the lives and property of road users, providing a safe travelling environment, and delivering quality public service remain the foremost priorities of the National Highways & Motorway Police. He emphasized that every available resource will continue to be utilized to achieve these objectives and further enhance road safety across the country.
