Senate Power Committee Meeting
ISLAMABAD
In the meeting of Senate Power Committee, Chairman Committee Saifullah Abro and Sr. Bahramand Tangi had bitter words.
Saifullah Abaro said that your lawyer is faster, you are trying to save corruption. Senator Bahramand Tangi said that I am a senator, I am not anybody’s lawyer, I am walking out of the committee on your remarks.
Bahramand Tangi walked out of the meeting.
National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) board members in the committee apologized for the letter written to the committee.
The committee directed action against the NTDC secretary for not providing the recording and materials of the meeting day.
The meeting of the committee was held under the chairmanship of the chairman of the committee, Saifullah Abaru.
Has any senator ever asked for his own work? The committee has directed to submit an evaluation report on the bunting conductor project of Dahaso Dam.
Senator Dilawar Khan said that if something has gone wrong, how will it be treated.
The committee has directed MDNTDC and NES-Pak to look into the matter and take a decision
Senator Haji Fida Muhammad said that why the Minister of Energy and the Secretary are absent from the Energy Committee, the officials of the Ministry of Energy said that the Minister of Energy is out of the country and the Secretary is in an online meeting and will come as soon as it ends.
In the meeting, the NTDC board members discussed the letter written to the committee and the NTDC members expressed their ignorance about the writing of the letter.
Power division officials said that the members were not aware of the writing of the letter as soon as the NTDC chairman wrote the letter.
Chairman NTDC Board resigned.
Chairman of the committee said that the letter written by the World Bank was not of the World Bank but of the local representative.
Officials of Ministry of Power asked for NRO and he gave it. The Power Division officials said that as soon as we raised this matter with the World Bank team, the inquiry team of Mustafa was also given to the World Bank officials.
The World Bank did not took any action on the issue, but expressed confidence. Project has been given, in case of any kind of action, there will be a negative impact on the loan.
Turkish ambassador also participated in the meeting.
Turkish diplomat said that people from Turkish companies are investing in many countries. Fifty-five of our companies want to invest in Pakistan. Officials of the global company said that we came to the committee for justice and our rights. The criteria of the project were clear.
The bidder was asked to show the work experience of 300 million. One company did not submit the work experience. There was a misrepresentation in the documents.
We wrote a letter to NTDC and informed all the points. NTDC has given us an interesting reply. NTDC refused to take our extension. Due to standing on the project, he had to bear the loss of billions of dollars.
NTDC officials said that the High Court also ruled that World Bank regulations should be followed.
Senator Dilawar said the World Bank never asked to audit its loans.
The matter before the committee is whether Sino Hydropower was eligible for the project. It is being told that Sino Hydropower was not eligible but was awarded the contract.
Senator Saifullah Abaro said that we raised this issue after looking at our country, we cannot defend your corruption.
Why did a six-member World Bank delegation come to visit the project two months later?
