Peshawar: Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar marked its 6th Convocation on Wednesday. The degrees were awarded to 300 students out of 1,184 passed out students from different sessions of BS, Masters, MPhils and PhDs. The students of affiliated colleges also received degrees. Five Ph.Ds and 60 M.phil scholars were awarded degrees in the convocation. A total of 39 gold medals were awarded to students out of which 6 gold medalists were from affiliated colleges enrolled in BA/BSc Programs. On the occasion university Vice Chancellor congratulated all the parents. She stated that the university is striving hard since 17 years for women empowerment. She stated that 80% of the faculty is PhD with foreign degrees and they are not just teaching the students but are grooming them as well to prepare them to become future leaders. She said that universities are hubs for Research and the university is currently working on 29 active research projects lead by faculty of the university and soon the university will be introducing innovative projects in the market. She thanked the Federal and Provincial government for extending support to the university and selecting it for the Pilot Project under KamiyabJawan Program and also granting the mega developmental project to the university under which new research labs, buildings and auditorium will be constructed. She also enlightened that the next convocation will be held within the University’s own on-campus auditorium.
Kamran Bangash said that it is moment of pride to see Pakhtun females excelling and acquiring higher education degrees.
He stated that the provincial government is now stressing upon universities to work on employability of the students, exposure of the students apart from bookish knowledge where they may be exposed to practical life exposure in their relative academic fields but SBBWUP is already contributing to this vision since many years and the Vice Chancellor must be appreciated for her efforts along with her team.
He added that keeping in view the services and dedication of staff and quality of education imparted in the females, the provincial government has decided to open varsity’s campus in the newly merged areas of KP so that the female youth of those areas may be able to acquire quality education. He said the sitting provincial government has set a record of opening 30 colleges across KP in one year in the leadership of Chief Minister KP. The government will extend all possible support to SBBWUP.
