Mr Ishaq terms federal got energy saving plan disaster for KP’s traders
PESHAWAR
The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) on Wednesday rejected the energy saving plan of the federal government, saying closure of market at 8:30 p.m. was a sheer violation of law and sought its implementation in Punjab.
In a statement, the president of CCI Muhammad Ishaq has termed the government energy saving measures as open enmity with the business community of the province.
He said that the federal government plan to shut business at the sun sit during the holy month of Ramadan is like a step mother attitude under the guise of the power saving plan.
The business at the Punjab province remained open at night, saying bazaars, restaurants, markets and shopping malls remain open till late night in Punjab but curbs have been implemented in KP.
We reject this policy which was only devised for KP, said Muhammad Ishaq and added that due to partial and one-sided decisions taken by the federal government would deprive the traders of the province from their assets and they would be forced to shut their business.
SCCI president threatened protest if the government did not roll back energy saving plans for the province, adding that KP business community was facing step-mother-like treatment which must be stopped as early as possible.
Muhammad Ishaq maintained that the government did not take the chamber on board prior to devising the energy saving policy for markets.
He also condemned the district administration for forcibly closing markets at night, saying during the month of Ramadan people prefer shopping therefore the policy must be reversed and save the business community from huge losses.
Mr Ishaq also demanded of the provincial government and Chief Secretary KP to take the issue with the federal government and allow the business at night times in the province.
“They should allow business centers to remain open till late night during the month of Ramadan to facilitate the business class and customers,” he added.
