In connection with World breastfeeding week, a seminar was held in Jamrud hospital last day to sensitize the participants of the topic.
District Health Officer(DHO)Dr Zafar,Medical Superintendent(MS)Dr Ihtesham Khan,Dr Nelum of National Nutrition program, Field Supervisor Motivation Officer(FSMO)Dr Usman,District Nutrition Manager Anum Afridi,Dr Shahid Khan Afridi and others were among the participants of the seminar.
Addressing on the occasion, the speakers thoroughly described the advantages of breastfeeding and said mother milk was the purist food for newborn which prevents them from many diseases while the formula milk was disastrous for the health of a mother and baby.
“The importance of breast feeding can be derived from the fact that in the religion of Islam, the mother has been directed to feed her newborn for two years,” they opined.
They went on that mother milk not only made the babies healthier but also had a healthier affect on mother health.
Those children who received mother milk were mentally and physically more fit than those who were denied breast feeding, they remarked.
Later on the participants conducted an awareness walk while carrying banner inscribed with slogans in favor of breast feeding.
It is worth mentioning here that World breastfeeding Week was started in 1992 to ensure child health and it is held in the first week of August every year.
