Senate Defence committee calls for reviewing ‘National Action Plan’

Senate Defence Committee has demanded the review of ‘National Action Plan’ and expressed their concern over terrorism incidents from Afghanistan.
Senator Mushahid Hussain chaired in-camera session of Senate Defence Committee on Thursday at Parliament House.
Committee demanded to design comprehensive plan and leading role of NACTA (National Counter Terrorism Authority) to counter terrorism.
Secretary Defence Lt General (r) Hamood Uz Zaman Khan briefed the committee over reasons of terrorism attacks from Afghan side and actions taken to stop then. He also briefed about deteriorating internal peace situation of KP and terrorist attack on CTD (Counter Terrorism Attack) complex Bannu.
According to sources, Defence secretary told the committee that terrorists who attacked on CTD complex Bannu were not came from Afghanistan. They were indigenous people and have been killed in action against them.
Although, CTD responsive ability improvement is necessary.
Committee members opinionated that clear strategy should be made to stop terrorism activities from Afghanistan. Pakistan’s view is clear to counter terrorism and National Security Council has also supported the Zero-tolerance policy.
Along with comprehensive plan, leading role should be given to NACTA to counter terrorism, committee members said, National Action Plan has to be reviewed, financial resources and help should be provided to former FATA districted merged in KP province.
All stake holders and related institutions should have mutual consultation and coordination to counter terrorism, committee maintained.
Secretary defence also told to committee that investigations are underway to find people involved in terrorism attack in Khaniwal to martyred two officers of intelligence agencies and updates will be shared to committee very soon.
Sajad Waseem, Hadayat Ullah, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, Umer Farooq, Dr. Zarka Taimur and Senator Palwasha Khan were present in the committee in-camera session.
