Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, has alleged that court-ordered meetings with PTI founding chairman Imran Khan were not allowed, terming it a clear violation of judicial directives.
He expressed these views during interaction with media outside Adiala jail here on Tuesday, after PTI leadership including CM Sohail Afridi was denied to meet party founder Imran Khan.
He said that despite court orders permitting family and lawyers’ meetings, no access was granted, which he described as a breach of the Constitution, law and democratic norms.
Shafi said CM, along with PTI leaders, lawmakers, family members and lawyers, staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail after being denied permission to meet Imran Khan. He added that the meeting restrictions have been in place for several months, which he termed an attempt to obstruct peaceful political activity. He alleged that preventing meetings with Imran Khan and imposing restrictions on political engagement reflected authoritarian practices and political victimisation. He further claimed that Section 144 was imposed in Rawalpindi on the meeting day, calling it a sign of “fear” of political mobilisation.
Shafi Jan also alleged that both federal and Punjab governments were keeping Imran Khan in solitary confinement and denying him and his spouse access to adequate medical facilities, terming it a violation of basic human rights.
He said PTI remained committed to constitutional supremacy, rule of law and peaceful political struggle, adding that the party would continue its campaign for the release of Imran Khan through democratic means.
