Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has expressed concern over alleged negligence by the Punjab government and jail authorities regarding the health of Bushra Bibi.
In a statement, Mr Jan termed the reported handling of Ms Bibi’s eye condition by the Punjab government and the administration of Adiala Jail as “regrettable and condemnable.”
He alleged that authorities had repeatedly shown negligence towards the health of former prime minister Imran Khan and his spouse, adding that a lack of timely and adequate medical care had led to a deterioration in Ms Bibi’s condition, necessitating emergency hospitalisation and eye surgery.
The adviser further criticised what he described as secrecy surrounding her transfer to hospital, terming it a violation of basic human rights. He said withholding timely medical treatment and information reflected disregard for humanitarian values.
Mr Jan emphasised that Bushra Bibi, being a non-political individual, should not be subjected to such treatment, adding that actions driven by political considerations were against democratic norms and human principles.
He also maintained that past efforts to politically weaken Mr Khan had failed and would continue to do so, alleging that such attempts by the federal and Punjab governments would not succeed.
