Karachi
The Sindh cabinet has formally approved the allocation of 639 additional residential plots for eligible members of the Karachi Press Club (KPC), resolving a long-standing demand from the journalistic community.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, where ministers reviewed a proposal concerning the land allocation.
Land and Development Details
The KPC had initially been allotted 1,271 plots through the Lyari Development Authority (LDA). Following a request for an additional 700 plots, the number was verified to cover 639 eligible members.
The proposal, which was subsequently approved, included the LDA’s request for authorization to:
Plan, allocate, and develop the plots on 125 acres in Hawksbay Scheme-42.
Approve the release of necessary development funds.
The local government department confirmed to the cabinet that the revised summary incorporated the required lists of both the 1,271 existing allottees and the 639 newly proposed beneficiaries.
Plots in MDA Projects Approved Under 80/20 Policy
In a separate but related move, the cabinet also considered and approved a Local Government proposal for the allotment of plots to KPC members in two projects overseen by the Malir Development Authority (MDA):
New Malir Housing Scheme-I (Block-12)
Taiser Town Scheme-45 (Sectors 22 & 23)
These allotments will be executed under the already approved 80/20 cost-sharing policy. This means the Government of Sindh will bear 80% of the land and development cost, while the KPC members will pay the remaining 20%, a decision formalized by the MDA’s Governing Body on October 16, 2024.
KPC Leadership Thanks Provincial Government
The leadership of the Karachi Press Club expressed their profound gratitude to the provincial government following the cabinet’s approval.
KPC President Fazil Jamili and Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, along with the governing body members, issued a statement thanking the Sindh government, and specifically Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, for his role under the leadership and guidance of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
They also acknowledged and appreciated the critical roles played by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, Local Bodies Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, and Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah in helping to resolve the issues.
