In a rare display of sportsmanship and intellectual engagement, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah played a friendly chess match against Pakistan’s Under-18 National Chess Champion, Mehak Maqbool, in Karachi. The event, held at a local venue on Saturday, was attended by several prominent personalities from the political and cultural spheres.
Minister for Education Syed Sardar Shah, Minister for Sports Mohammad Bux Mahar, and well-known singer and social activist Shahzad Roy were present to witness the match. The gathering aimed to promote intellectual sports like chess and encourage youth participation in such activities.
Mehak Maqbool, who has earned national recognition for her exceptional skills in chess at a young age, showcased her strategic prowess during the match. Sports Minister Mohammad Bux Mahar announced plans to support chess and other intellectual sports at the provincial level. “We are committed to providing opportunities and facilities for students and young champions like Mehak. Sindh has immense talent, and it’s our duty to help them shine,” he said.
