Sindh govt for ensuring online transaction of workers’ salaries

The caretaker Sindh government instructed industrialists to ensure online transactions of salaries of industrial workers and implementation of labor rights and other relevant laws and rules.
Sindh Provincial Steering Committee for Business and Human Rights, met here on Friday with caretaker provincial minister of Law and Human Rights Muhammad Umar Soomro in chair, also called for elimination of forced or voluntary labor, child labor and discriminatory practices on the basis of gender, color and creed at the workplace.
According to a statement issued here, the meeting was attended by Secretary Human Rights Sindh Tahseen Fatima, Secretary Industries Rashid Ahmed Solangi, Chairman Sindh Human Rights Commission Iqbal Ahmed Detho, secretaries and officers of other departments concerned and industrialists.
Umar Soomro directed the Departments of Labor and Industry that the salaries of the workers working in the industries and factories should be made online under the law so that it is known whether they are getting the wages set by the government or not.
He warned that action should be taken against those who do not comply with the law. The meeting was briefed by all the relevant departments about progress made on the important regulations of GSP Plus.
The caretaker minister said that non-implementation of labor rights and environmental protection and not addressing the governance issues may negatively impact the GSP Plus status. Secretary Industries Rashid Ahmad Solangi said that all the industrialists in Sindh were required by law to deposit the salaries of industrial workers in their bank accounts but many industrialists were not following it.
Chairman Sindh Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Ahmed Detho while briefing the meeting, said that complaints were being lodged from many places that workers were not being paid as per notified minimum wages and commission have also issued notices to several industries and institutions in the regard. —
