A skiing event, organised by the KP Tourism Department, will begin at the international skiing resort Malam Jabba in Swat district Friday.
Speaking to members of the Tourism and Culture Journalists Forum led by its president M. Shahid, CM’s special assistant on tourism Abdul Munim said that the 3-day skiing event would conclude on Sunday. The skiing event is annually held by the department.
Abdul Munim said that KP is the lone province in Pakistan, having a proper tourism policy. “Besides the Tourism Policy, we are taking measures to improve tourism. We are registering all hotels with the Tourism Department so that no hotel can exploit the customers,” he added.
He said that the tourism authorities checks up the employees and cooks of the registered hotels once in every six months so that they do not have contagious diseases.
He said that they recently set up a tourism information centre at Chakdara in Lower Dir. “In the past, the tourists from Punjab and other far off areas used to be overcharged by hotels. he added.
He said that the tourism department was also working to set up a walking track, almost 4 km, in Kalam valley to promote tourism and facilitate locals. “In the past, many people have died after falling into the river in Kalam. The track would also save lives by providing safe passage for pedestrians,” he added.
He said that they were also making arrangements for the Chilim Jusht festival in Chitral. “Recently our Shandur Mela attracted a large number of tourists,” he added.
