The provincial minister for public health engineering Fazal Shakoor Khan on Friday presided over solarization of the department under the ongoing China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Socio-Economic Grant.
The Secretary public health engineering, project director, and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The provincial minister was informed that solarization has been included as a key component under the CPEC grant to provide reliable, cost-effective and sustainable energy to water supply schemes across the province.
The initiative aims to shift water pumping systems to solar energy, significantly reducing electricity expenses, enhancing system sustainability, and ensuring uninterrupted water supply, particularly in remote areas.
In the meeting it is further said that solarization and related civil works for 10 pilot schemes in Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda districts have been physically completed. Out of these, 4 schemes have already been formally handed over to the respective PHE Divisions, while the remaining schemes are in the final stages of the handover process.
It was also highlighted that all technical evaluations including load assessment, water quality testing, and solar feasibility analysis have been fully completed.
Briefing the forum, officials explained that the core objectives of the CPEC Solarization Project includes transition of water supply systems to solar energy, reduction in operation and maintenance costs, utilization of stable and environment-friendly energy in remote regions, improvement in service delivery and provision of uninterrupted safe drinking water to the public
Mr Fazal Shakoor Khan said on the occasion that all water supply projects are directly linked to public welfare, therefore, their timely completion remains a top priority of the current KP government.
He added that the solarization schemes will serve as a milestone for the department and will strengthen water supply systems on a sustainable basis, particularly during the ongoing energy challenges.
The Provincial Minister directed the concerned officers to expedite coordination with the Chinese counterparts to ensure the timely completion of the procurement and supply processes.
He further emphasized that all departmental teams must continue to work with professionalism, teamwork and mutual coordination to ensure the highest quality implementation of public welfare projects.
