LAHORE: People from garments, mobile accessories, stationary and various other sectors have sought the federal government’s intervention to sort out heavy increase in valuation which has created an atmosphere of uncertainty.
A delegation of traders who met the office-bearers of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Sunday said the Directorate General of Valuation had made massive increase in the valuation of garments, mobile phone accessories, stationary and various other items without taking business community in confidence.
They said the injustice would nudge commercial importers to find illegal means to bring these products.
LCCI President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad said the trading community was being harassed by FBR officials enjoying discretionary powers.
He was of the view that the check-posts of anti-smuggling unit were hurting and not helping the business activities.
He said huge increase in the customs valuation would promote illegal import of merchandise and these commodities likely to come into the country under the guise of Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).
The LCCI president urged the Directorate General of Valuation to withdraw new table immediately.
