PESHAWAR
Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Javed Rehmat Khan said on Wednesday that efforts are underway in collaboration with National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and provincial department of social welfare to mobilise the trnasgeneder persons for CNIC and vote registrations.
He expressed these views while adressing a special meeting held to delibrate over the steps to involve different government line departments and NADRA to get the transgender persons CNIC and register them as an active voters.
The meeting was organized by “ Di Hawa Lor”, a non profit organization and other civil society organizations.
Director Local Government Elections Zulfiqar Ahmed, Spokesperson Provincial Election Commissioner Sohail Ahmed, Assistant Director Social Inclusion Syed Aun Ahmed, Naqvi, Shawana Shah, Ayesha, Arzoo and Farzana of Khwaja Sarai Manzil Foundation and other participated in the meeting.
The forum was informed that most of the work has been concluded to launch a campaign for the registration of trnasgender persons as voters.
It added that an effective strategies would be devised to solve the problems of the community and make them part of the electoral process.
Javed Rehmat Khan informed the meeting that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is committed to continue efforts to increase the participation of all the deprived sections, including transgender persons, in the elections process and support of the departments concerns and civil society would be encourged to this end.
Vote registration is mandatory for installation of a sustainable and real sense democratic system in the country, he added.
“ECP is trying to ensure the participation of all sections of the society in the electoral process,” Javed added.
Shawana Shah and Ayesha brified the meeting regarding the registration of the transgender community in the province.
It was proposed that NADRA and the provincial social welfare department would set up a joint one window service for the convenience of transpersonal registration.
Director Election Zulfiqar Ahmed said that a special meeting of NADRA and social welfare department would be held soon on the issue of transgender community registration process in the province.
